Famel, incubated by Set.Up Guimarães, announced a round of investment and received 2.5 million in investment to accelerate its business.

According to Expresso, according to data provided by Famel, the round currently includes an investment of 2.45 million euros from the Novus fund, managed by the company Magnify Capital Partners in partnership with Banco de Fomento.

The minimum investment amount for private investors “will be around 10 thousand euros”. Regarding the investment return period, Pedro Ortigão Correia, one of the partners of the Novus fund management company, preferred not to commit. “These are projects in which during the first years there is an investment process, there is a growth process and then the return is made later on, when the brand has the entry of a large partner, the brand is sold or simply going very well and the company is producing a lot of results”, he clarified.

The new motorcycle has two versions, the Café Racer, which is suitable for just one occupant, and the Clássica, which is suitable for two. Both can come in two versions, equivalent to 50 and 120 cubic centimeters, with prices ranging from 5500 euros to 6200 euros.

In addition to the electrical component, “the new version of Famel will incorporate mostly European components, 50% of which will be made in Portugal, which brings significant advantages in terms of ecological footprint”, says the company. The new motorbikes can now be reserved on the Famel website, upon payment of 600 euros. According to Joel Sousa, the 125 cubic centimeter models already have approximately one hundred reserves. The objective is that in the spring of next year, the first models will be placed on the market to cover the reservations that have been made so far.

Famel expects that around 2000 units will be produced and put on sale per year by 2029, with a strong focus on the internationalization of the brand. “We have a lot of requests, mainly from strong Portuguese communities, France, Germany, Luxembourg. We frequently receive emails asking us to do so. The first focus will be to leverage the brand’s presence internationally”, explained Joel Sousa. In a statement, Famel states that it plans to start production at a bicycle manufacturing company in Anadia, near Águeda.
