This council is responsible for collaborating with the government in formulating and implementing strategies for the growth of the national scientific and technological system, promoting innovation and international competitiveness.
The vice-president of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho, Raul Fangueiro, mentor of our incubator, was appointed to the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CNCTI). The news was announced this Friday by Fibrenamics, on the association’s various digital platforms.
“With the presence of Raul Fangueiro in this body, an active contribution is expected to strengthen the innovation system in Portugal, namely through the promotion of science in the Portuguese language, the internationalization of scientific and technological research, and the bringing of science to society and industries”, can be read in the statement.
“I feel very honored to have been invited by the Portuguese Government to join this Commission. Being able to contribute to national policy with regard to science, technology and innovation is, for me, a factor of great satisfaction, especially because, throughout my several years of career, I have worked a lot on the issue of integrating science and of scientific knowledge into innovative technologies and innovative products”, said the founder of Fibrenamics in statements to RUM. For Raul Fangueiro, it is important that science “reaches each one of us and brings a better quality of life, that solves people’s problems” and, therefore, the University of Minho and, in particular, the School of Engineering “have been working a lot on this issue”.
The CNCTI’s mission is to collaborate in the development and support of the national scientific and technological system, promoting the transversal articulation of science and technology policies and ensuring scientific advice to the various government entities. In accordance with Decree-Law No. 63/2019, the CNCTI is made up of representatives from research and development (R&D) institutions, technology centers, universities and other reference institutions in Portugal, guaranteeing a plurality of perspectives and knowledge.
