Information on various domains, from urban mobility and energy efficiency to air quality, always with the main objective of supporting decision making for sustainability.

The Guimarães City Council, through the Division of Intelligent and Information Systems, is implementing an Urban Intelligence Platform, in order to obtain answers to daily challenges through digitalization, based on data collected in an urban environment. The project, developed in collaboration with Ubiwhere, was considered a good practice by the European Commission, given that it excels in its accessibility and comprehensiveness, guaranteeing information on several areas, from urban mobility and energy efficiency to air quality, always with the objective principally, decision support for sustainability.

The urban platform in Guimarães is an instrument panel of the city with mapping support that displays information in different domains. It presents information, updated in real time, from different domains, coming from different sources such as sensors, services, and the community of citizens.

It supports operational activities such as road accident warnings, traffic movement and parking spaces. Through the integration of these sources of information and the harmonization of data, the opportunities for analysis are noticed in real time, providing updates for reliable decisions.

Through this Urban Platform it is possible to obtain political and strategic data on quality of life and sustainability, with personalized panels as well as performance reports of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) centered on mobility, environment, tourism, energy and waste. Due to these unique characteristics, the implementation of the Urban Platform in Guimarães was considered a good practice by the European Commission.

The platform supports operational activities such as referral for traffic accidents and the availability of parking spaces. It also provides information on public lighting energy consumption, or reports on SDG objectives in different domains (mobility, environment, tourism, energy, waste). The platform gathers data from different sources, whether from sensors, platforms or services via APIs, or directly from citizens (for example, street problems).
