Katty Xiomara is an internationally recognized fashion designer. Her brand steps on the fashion shows of Paris, New York and Milan and at many other international fairs

Born in Venezuela, within a Portuguese family, Katty Xiomara moved to Portugal at the age of 18, settling in Porto. In 1997 she ends the Fashion Design course at Citex (now Modatex), where she currently lectures​. She fills the fashion week calendar in Portugal since 1998. Earlier in her​ career she reconciles the evolution of the brand with other projects in such diverse areas as children’s clothing, uniforms, theatre, TV, music, dance, and graphic arts.

 

In 2000 she designs the costumes for the adaptation of the play La Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri with Jean Paul Bucchieri choreography, at Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon. A year later registers​ the brand as trademark, but only ventures i​internationally in 2005.

 

​Katty Xiomara’s name treads the catwalks of Paris on several occasions and participates regularly in international trade shows.

In 2007 opens her shop atelier in an old townhouse located in the emblematic rua da Boavista in Porto. In 2012 receives the official visit of His Excellency the President – Professor Anibal Cavaco Silva, in the framework of the visit to the creative industries of excellence. Since September 2013 she presents its collections at Fashion Week in New York. In 2014 she was awarded with the Silver Winner award by the IDA “International Design Awards” and in 2015 repeated this feat to bend, as well as a new Silver Winner and she was awarded with an Honourable Mention. The corporate image was recognized and awarded by the American magazine HOW and her​ work has been published in several international editions.

 

In 2017 she designed the uniforms for the awarded bookstore (Livraria Lello). She was chosen by the Viseu City Hall to design the uniforms and the merchandising and a capsule collection inspired by the city folk, for the Europeade – European Folklore City Festival in 2018. Their collections were shown across Europe in 2019, places like Milan, Paris or the idyllic scenery of the border bridge between Portugal and Spain over the Minho river. She also was appointed to be part of the advisory board of Textile Portuguese Association (ATP).

 

Earlier February of 2020 she was one of the laureates of the OpenMyMed Prize 2020-21 (Maison Mode Méditerranée [MMM]). Alongside her careers as a Fashion Designer, Katty Xiomara is a lecturer at Modatex in Porto, where she teaches themes like Street wear, Tribes and Urban Subcultures.

The brand’s philosophy falls within the concept of designer-driven pieces that are aspirational yet accessible, elegant, and timeless, sophisticated but playful, ultra-feminine with tailored silhouettes, meticulous structures and shapes, bold use of color and print.

 

Her collections are made in Portugal and are developed through and Eco-Design approach that allow us to progressive be eco-sustainable and provide an approximation to the global sustainable practices and requirements of responsible, modern, and socially active entrepreneurship. The garments are conceived and designed to minimize the fabric waste and taking to the minimum the use accessories, zippers, buttons, etc. Most of the fabrics used are recycled or eco smart fabrics.

Published in several International edition such as: Design Secrets – Rockport, Boxed and Labeled – Gestalten, Book of the Big Bags, Tags and Labels – Collins, Urban Fashion Flavor – Monsa, Vogue Portugal, Activa, Elle Portugal, etc.

 

Through these years she has supported different types of social causes and are some philanthropic/charitable events that we enjoy being a part of:

  • Nariz Vermelho- Association that supports to the hospitalized children.
  • Portuguese Association against Brest Cancer – We donate a dress for an auction and the highest bidder.
  • Since 2009 we are partners with the Portuguese League against Cancer and Maia City Hall and Katty’s took a roll as a “Godmother” for solar prevention in local schools.
  • 2013 Designed a gown for “Associação Abraço”- An organization that supports people with HIV/Aids.
  • For the last 4 years Katty has supported the project Vintage for a Cause, that seeks the promotion of active ageing and social inclusion, via the occupation of women over 50 years.
  • In collaboration with the company Desistart, Katty promoted a solidarity an online auction of a tapestry with her design, with eight square meters and almost 50 kilograms for a solidarity cause. The amount collected was donated to Acreditar – the association of Parents and Friends of children with cancer.
  • Early 2018, Katty took the challage made by Fundação Infantil Ronald McDonald to dress a limited edition of a doll (Maria)  – “Maria by Katty Xiomara” and the sales revenues of “Maria by Katty Xiomara” contribute to help the children’s foundation Ronald McDonald and its main programs-the Ronald McDonald Houses (in Lisbon and Porto) and the family space Ronald McDonald (at the Hospital of Santa Maria in Lisbon) to receive more families with children in hospital treatment.
  • In 2018 (June) she partners with the Portuguese Red Cross to “customise” 3 vests from Medicos do Mundo used on the worldwide help missions (worn in 2003 on Al Mahmoudia hospital – Iraq; 2004 after the tsunami on basic help care to over 10.000 people in the Jafna district in Sri Lanka; 2011 help care to over 22.000 people on Mavinga)
