Incubator: the springboard to startup success

Taking the first step into entrepreneurship can be difficult for many people. Starting a business may be challenging, and making it thrive is even more so.

A Brazilian platform, Economia SC, highlighted this week that among the many ways to encourage entrepreneurship, business incubators are among the most important. These institutions aim to help entrepreneurs develop their businesses, providing physical space and infrastructure for early-stage companies, as well as administrative and management support, and sometimes even training.

The article also notes that incubators offer a space where entrepreneurs can connect with others in similar situations, exchange ideas, meet mentors, and even close deals and partnerships. A company that begins its journey within an incubator has high chances of expansion and growth, as it is developed in an environment focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.

According to Economia SC, when incubated, entrepreneurs receive support in various areas such as fundraising, accounting, management, legal assistance, marketing, and commercialization. This support is offered across the three main stages businesses go through during their incubation journey:

  1. Implementation: forming the team and establishing the company, identifying purpose and growth potential.
  2. Consolidation or growth: technical development of the solution and beginning of product or service commercialization.
  3. Maturation: the startup has completed qualification and learning phases and begins to operate independently.

In this context, the city of Guimarães hosts a “super incubator” called Set.Up Guimarães. Strategically located in one of Portugal’s most industrialized regions, Set.Up Guimarães aims to create synergies among various stakeholders across the municipality.

Set.Up Guimarães seeks to promote entrepreneurship and innovative ideas in the region, focusing on three major knowledge areas: creative, technological, and industrial. It offers workspaces at highly competitive prices, emphasizes facilities, expertise, and communication, and enables the exchange of experiences among entrepreneurs as well as easier development of professional networks.

The incubation program at Set.Up Guimarães is currently open for applications. If you want to be in a space equipped with the tools and know-how necessary to develop your business, pre-register HERE.
