Last Friday, November 28, the Espaço Empresa de Guimarães, in partnership with Set.Up Guimarães, organized an open class on financial literacy at Santos Simões Secondary School. The initiative brought together around 60 students from the 10th-year CSE, 11th-year CSE, and 12th-year Management Information Systems and ASC classes, offering an essential learning opportunity to develop financial and entrepreneurial skills.

During the session, key topics for understanding economic and business operations were covered, including tax obligations (IRS, IRC, and VAT), social security contributions, the importance of taxes, business responsibilities, and entrepreneurial income structures. Students also had the chance to explore concepts related to business creation, such as validating ideas and business models, the importance of a clear value proposition, and developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).

Ethics were also addressed, with discussions on corporate social responsibility, responsible management practices, and the role of companies in building a fairer and more sustainable economy.

For Espaço Empresa and Set.Up Guimarães, the session represented another step in strengthening the connection between the economic sector and education, helping to prepare young people for the challenges of the labor market and to make more informed financial decisions in the future.

The initiative also reinforces the municipality’s commitment to promoting knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit among young people in Guimarães, providing them with the tools needed to build informed and sustainable career paths.
