Sentinel, a company incubated at TecPark by Set.Up Guimarães, has been acquired by Spain’s Mondragón Group, the largest business conglomerate in the Basque Country. The tech company, specializing in computer vision and 3D solutions for the industrial sector, is taking a strategic step by relocating its headquarters to Barcelona.
According to the newspaper Eco, the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed. However, the deal aims to expand Mondragón’s presence in the “artificial vision” sector and strengthen its commitment to industrial automation.
Sentinel’s headquarters will move from Guimarães to Rubí, Barcelona, while maintaining a technology center in Portugal dedicated to sales, services, and product development, co-founder Joel Alves confirmed to Eco.
Alves also stated that the Portuguese team will remain involved in the project, as all employees will transition to the new company. Additionally, the company is hiring sales and administrative professionals for its Spanish operations. The new location will help Sentinel strengthen its market position and expand internationally, targeting markets such as Mexico, France, and Germany.
On LinkedIn, Sentinel expressed confidence in its future: “We are ready to take a big step into the future. We are joining Mondragón Corporation, one of most important industrial groups in Spain, with the goal of strengthening our position and taking our innovation even further.”
“With this strategic alliance, Sentinel embarks on its journey as an international group, maintaining our strong commitment to innovative artificial vision solutions as well as the development of our own software, paving the way forward.” the company added.
Founded just four years ago, Sentinel participated in the first acceleration program of Set.Up Guimarães, Set.Up In(dustry). The company currently employs 16 people and serves high-profile clients, including Continental, Amorim, and Sociedade Ponto Verde. Becoming part of the Mondragón Group marks a turning point in Sentinel’s journey, with expectations of significant growth and a revenue target of €8 to €10 million in the coming years.
